"I was instructed to enter different profiles and strike up random conversations... care to help me out a bit?" he asked.

"Well..arent those random instructions.....sure, ill help i guess"
she smiled nicely at this new kid.

"I guess I should actually introduce myself properly, then," Riley said, smiling slightly. "I'm Riley."

"Nice to meet you...Im Katy"
she moved her hand sluggishly infront of her, to shake his..if he wanted to...

Riley eyed her hand warily. "Er... not to be rude or anything, but I don't shake hands," he said quietly. "Long story."

"Oh...ok"
She let it drop
"So..what house are you in?"

"Gryffindor," Riley replied. "And you? I haven't seen you around... but that doesn't surprise me..."

"Same, actually..Im uhh, a transfer...from america.."

"Oh," Riley said. "Here I thought that I was just being oblivious for the past five-ish years... but apparently not." He smiled slightly. "This is a long way from home, then, for you... It must be hard..."

"Youve no idea. I didnt want to come here in the first place..."
she didnt really know what to say..its not like she talked a lot to people here

"I can imagine," Riley replied. Wow, he was bad at this conversation thing. He hardly ever talked to anyone -- it took a lot for him to even talk to Ashley. "OK... so I'm gonna be upfront about something, I normally don't do conversations or anything... so bear with me," he said with a slight smile.

Katy let out a small laugh
"No worries...same here...talking just makes you look like an idiot..so I dont do it much...i dont talk much that is...not make myself look like an idiot or anything...like now"
she trailed off.

"Meh, that didn't make you sound like an idiot to me... but at least having a fear of soudning or looking like an idiot is a far better excuse for not talking much than my excuse."

"I guess..."
that wasnt the reason she didnt talk..but she'd take it if thats what he thought..
"So..."

"Damn, I got it wrong, didn't I? ...but we don't ahve to get into it. I don't necessarily need to know," Riley added. If she told him why she was quiet, then he'd have to tell her why he was quiet... and he didn't know if he really wanted to go into that.

"Yeah..i think id prefer to not get into it"
she gave a small short laugh thenn began to pull at one of her curls in the back...as was habit

Riley nodded, understanding completely. But he stayed silent, unsure of what to say... he really wasn't good at this at all.

Katy was quite content with the silence....but spoke anyways.
"Well...hope ive been a help for those instructions of yours...who asked you to anyways?? you dont have to answer..im just curoius.."

Riley, who had also been content wiht the quiet, was slightly surprised that Katy had broken it. "Oh... Ashley... Michael," he added the last name since he assumed that Katy didn't know who Ashley was since she just came to Hogwarts. "She's in Gryffindor, too..."

"Oh..just wonderin.."
she went back to the peaceful silence

"She seems to think that I need to be more outgoing," Riley added, though it seemed more to himself tan to Katy just by the quietness of his voice... as if he were thinking aloud.

"Who says you cant be quiet and not outgoing? your outgoing in your own way...i guess"
she answered

(haha for some reason i feel like were in a setting of the outdoos, just sitting on a grassy area with students bustling behind us...lol)
